HIS BANNER OVER ME IS LOVE

This year I decided to take a new approach to how we celebrate Valentine's Day.  I started to think about love, the true meaning of it, and where it comes from.  The answer was suddenly very clear to me, God is love, so we will celebrate God's love for Valentine's Day.  I don't want to set my girls up with unrealistic ideas of what romantic love can do for them, but instead flood them with the knowledge of where real, unfailing, and neverending love comes from.  True love, love that allows them to love others even the people who do not love them back.  Back at Christmas,  Alisa  made a banner with the names of God on it and Susie Harris made this sign that I have been drooling over.  These two women started my brain to thinking and I decided we could make a Valentine's banner with the names of God and verses about his love.  His banner over us is love.

Let me tell you girls how much fun it was to make.  I study my Bible regularly, but had never done a study just on God's unfailing love.  I challenge you to research how many times it is listed in the Bible.

( I love seeing the girls handwriting )
Everyone we know is going to fail us in some way or another, but His love is unfailing and everlasting, doesn't that bring you joy.

His banner over you is love.

If you would like a beautiful reminder of His love check out Susie's DIY and make yourself a sign, to have as a reminder of his love.  I think this is the greatest piece of art and hope  one day to have one myself,  (that will require some sweet talking to my Sweet Hubby).

Thanks so much for sharing your great idea! Been a rough week here at TheSmithHotel since finding out hubby lost his job-but we are holding onto God's promise that He will take care of our family!

Hi Cha Cha, I think this is the first time I have been to your blog.(?) I'm sorry it has taken me so long - you are such a sweetheart. I really like the two banner ideas. I can't decide which one best. I always rejoice in hearing the different names of God, but the love themed one for Valentine's day is a nice turn of events (from romantic to Godly love).

Do you say how old your girls are somewhere? I homeschooled my two youngest last year, it's quite the commitment.
Blessings, Kim

I love the meaning of this!! It's so easy for us to forget the person who always loves us and doesn't let us down. :)

A lot of single women hate Valentine's Day because there isn't anyone "special" in their lives. How wrong is that? The Lord is our loved one, the only one we can count on in times of pain, stress, worry, etc. How great a Love He has for us!! Thank you for making Valentine's Day special to all of us by reminding us that we are loved unconditionally, Faithfully, Forever.

I LOVE this idea! Thanks so much for the link, but I think I love this idea more than mine.

This is such a wonderful way of celebrating God's love for us. It is true that the people in our life will always disappoint, but God's love will not. He is love is faithful and everlasting!

I am so beyond inspired by this! We usually don't really celebrate V-day, b/c it's such a "hallmark" holiday, and everything is over priced (dinner, flowers, etc). But your take on valentine's day melts my heart. I'm going to work on a project like this for my family. Thank you for your inspiration and another way to look at the work of the Lord.

oh cha cha!

this is beautiful. your words are so touching. along with HIS words & names. this is a lovely, sentimental project.

i couldn't agree with you more on giving your girls false hopes of unrealistic love. when i was growing up, and people would ask the generic question, "when are you going to get married?" my dad would immediately speak up & say, "Oh no, we don't want her to be in any hurry we just want her to be happy & in love with her life and find comfort from her Savior."

i cannot tell you how much of an impact this has/had on my life. i love that my parents never wanted to rush me.
and look at your beautiful cabinets & canisters. lovely.

you "had" me at the title of this post, but your words brought tears to my eyes.

have a loved filled week!

I love how you are guarding your girls' hearts. When my boys were little sometimes people would attempt to tease them by saying "So, do you have a girlfriend yet?" My kids would look at them like they were crazy.

I would take them aside and ask them to please not tease my children about that, that it wasn't appropriate at that age and that I didn't want them to even be thinking along those lines yet.

I love your banner. The verses and names are awesome and I especially love the handwriting. What a wonderful way to remember the faithfulness and love of the Lord. I hope you will keep this as a momento of this precious time!

What a great perspective. My husband and I have decided not to celebrate valentine's day b/c it has become a hallmark card holiday with many false expectations. (also b.c my bday is the 13th) but this is a great way to celebrate valentine's day! Thanks for your insight.

I love your post today. You are so right. There is nothing...NOTHING that can touch...come close... to the love our Father has for us. It's hard for us to even grasp that depth of love, since we can't obtain it ourselves on this worldly journey. But! one day! :-)
I love the Abba one. The intimate love of the Father-"daddy" is just overwhelming and can bring tears when it flows down. Thank you so much for touching on the real meaning and source of love for this Valentines Day this year.
God bless.
